Prince of Peace

A picture of a manger overlaid with text saying A Child Is Born

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

As we reflect, in a special way, on the birth of Jesus at this time of year, we think of the very core reason he came into the world in human form: to save us from our sins, and ultimately to know peace with God. (Rom. 5:1) Our sins warranted that we were to forever remain enemies of God, but through the sacrifice of his son, we’ve been reconciled (2 Cor. 5:18). Could there be any gift better than that?

Not only are we assured of our eternal peace with God, but also that we have his presence, comfort and guidance with us at all times. His continuing guidance in our lives, through studying the Bible and speaking with him in prayer, can bring us that same deep peace every day. It’s amazing to think that the newborn baby we celebrate at Christmas, humble in the manger, is the same Prince of Peace with the immense power that keeps us safe and secure. Let’s be thankful today and always for the gift of Jesus and take heart in his everlasting peace.
