The Indwelling Holy Spirit

2 April 2023

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

1 Cor. 12:7

When speaking to the Galatians, Paul again makes it plain that the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is a gift from God and not of our own doing, given to aid and guide us in our service on Earth; ‘Because you are His sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts.’ (Gal. 4:6)

When we are saved and become Christians, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:9-16 tells us: ‘And if the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his spirit that lives in you.’ It is this same Holy Spirit, living in us, who gives us eternal life. Not only that, but we can also be confident that we will be raised after death. We have been bought out of the slavery of sin with the price of Christ’s death, meaning we are not our own, therefore we must use our bodies to give glory to God.

Transforming Power

When speaking to the Galatians, Paul again makes it plain that the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is a gift from God and not of our own doing, given to aid and guide us in our service on Earth.

In this passage, Paul is explaining to the believers in Corinth that they had received the same one Spirit but that this gift manifests itself in many ways, uniquely within each person as the Spirit of God determines. This is the same for us as modern disciples.

Having received this gift of the Spirit, as well as our salvation, we gain further understanding of God’s word; His power is able to transform us from our sinful ways to a way that glorifies God in our daily lives, ultimately making us more like His Son.
