The repetition of lyrics and the simplicity of this song captured my attention a few weeks ago. The words, ‘there is a longing only you can truly satisfy; Lord you satisfy me like nobody else can,’ stood out to me as a reminder that God gives us a satisfaction that the world cannot offer, no matter how much we may think it can. No person or thing can give us the contentment that comes from being in a relationship with God. Psalm 34:10b says, ‘Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing’.
Full satisfaction in God is found through having childlike faith of trust in him and dependence on him, knowing that he is the provider of our needs, and that he comforts us through his power. Contentment can be difficult when the world seemingly has so much to offer, but what God offers is so much more, and is found through seeking him in this life, and in pleasures promised for eternity. One of the verses originates from Psalm 16:11:
‘You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.’
