The stars are used through the Bible as symbols of things powerful and aloof, or things untouched by time – yet the messages given referencing them are timely messages of comfort and hope to those who are willing to look upwards, beyond the stars, to God. Twenty-twenty has been a difficult year for many people across the world, and Christians have had limitations placed on their ability to worship and to share the gospel publicly. Rather than looking ahead to 2021 for hope, the Beroean team has put together this twelve-day reading plan ‘Stars’ to keep our minds fixed on God as our hope for the way ahead.
Day One: The Star of Bethlehem
After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.
Matthew 2:9-10
Day Two: God Made The Stars
And God made the two great lights – the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night – and the stars.
Genesis 1:6
Day Three: How God Uses His Power
The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining. The LORD roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth quake. But the LORD is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the people of Israel.
Joel 3:15-16
Day Four: Is Not God High In The Heavens?
Is not God high in the heavens? See the highest stars, how lofty they are!
Job 22:12
Day Five: Descendants of Abraham
I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore…
Genesis 22:17
Day Six: He Names The Stars
He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
Psalm 147:4
Day Seven: A Star Out Of Jacob
I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near: a star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel…
Numbers 24:17
Day Eight: Joseph’s Stars
Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”
Genesis 37:9
Day Nine: Crown of Stars
And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
Revelation 12:1
